In 1.1 and Insect Invasion multiplayer, it is very unlikely you will come across an uber-conpetitive player who doesn't use or recommends the army dubbed the "Abusies." These units are considered the best units in the community in these base mods. Many of them are very useful and affordable for their research levels and are very hard to find counters for.
The Abusies army usually consists of:
-> Coyagon - does reasonable damage for a level 2, very bulky unit with regeneration and keen sense
-> Zebron Frogs - many people's go-to range unit at level 2, does high range damage at level 2 and the frog limbs provide some extra hp that other range units don't
-> Archeramels - High hp artillery lv2s with reasonable range damage
-> Rattlehorses - the go-to level 4, a whopping 32 melee damage w. poison, 34 land speed, high endurance and regen make it very effective for fast rushes and overpowering your opponents
-> Mooselobs - very few Insect and 1.1 players don't carry this guy around, as well as Babales and the Rattlehorses. 82 defence in 1.1, 75 defence in Insect, over 500 hp with regen, barrier destroy and horns, the definitive tank. Very few hard counters to it.
-> Babales - the most commonly used end game unit alongside Mooselobs. Pack hunter boosted sonic is basically a cockblock for most early-midgame units and does alot of damage to late game units as well. Also the Baboons high defence and hp mean it can take plenty of hits and is reasonably hard to kill. It's only real counter is high defence but Mooselobs usually take care of those guys.
Level 3 usually consists of strong range such as lioness range and a strong melee unit to pair it up with, and somewheres in the army a flier or strong late game artillery may be thrown in there, but other than that these are the creatures you will normally see in Insect. If you don't feel like dealing with these guys all the time I'll recommend jumping to Tellurian mod where there is alot more variety and these units don't run so rampant.
